Garage Rock

Chris Schlosshardt - Bass & Vocals

Greg Langston - Drums

When one thinks of San Francisco rock bands from the mid eighties, The Sea Hags are at the top of the list. The band dared to play heavy, riff driven rock at a time when audiences needed a change from punk and hardcore.

Ron Yocom (Vocals, guitar), Chris Schlosshardt (bass, vocals) and Greg Langston (drums) started the group in early 1985 at the legendary Turk street studios, and the Sound of Music, a small nightclub in the heart of S.F.’s Tenderloin district. Santa Rosa boys Ron and Chris recruited experienced drummer Greg Langston, previously with Fade to Black, No Alternative, Bryan Gregory’s Beast, among others. The unique combination of talents rapidly led  to frequent performances, travel and recording. The self released cassette “the Hag of the Sea” sold rapidly. Los Angeles shows were so frequent, many assumed that the group was from there.

The Sea Hags shared stages with a diverse variety of groups, and made fans whenever they played. The Ramones, Janes’ Addiction, D.O.A.,

Soundgarden, Seven Seconds, Motorhead, The Adolescents, Dead Kennedys, Frightwig, Social Distortion, Agent Orange, Jetboy, The Nuns T.S.O.L., Faith No More, Primus, Social Unrest, Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion of Conformity, Flaming Lips, Our lady of Pain, The Mentors, Green River, Johnny Thunders, Sonic Youth, The Cramps, Circle Jerks, Flipper, Butthole Surfers, Toy Dolls, Wall of Voodoo, Meat Puppets, Redd Kross, and countless others shared the stage.

Record deal with Chrysalis Records followed, and with a steady rise to success, a quick decline was to follow. A second guitarist was added and the group switched drummers. The magic of the trio was gone, and even with a successful U.K. tour, tragedy was to follow.

The L.P. didn’t sell very well, and Chrysalis records became frustrated with the current line ups well documented drug use and lack of new material for a follow up recording. The band split in 1990, and Chris Schlosshardt died shortly after.

Fortunately, recordings exist from the band’s early days, and can still be enjoyed by fans, old and new.
